The nasty truth about Lichens
Whilst many other plant-based Vitamin D options claim they are vegan by using Lichens, they are actually destroying the environment by doing so.
Lichens are a type of algae living symbiotically among fungi and they are being disturbed and extracted from their environment when used in Vitamin D products. There is also a chemical extraction process that takes place making this a highly chemical and not a natural Vitamin D option at all.
At Hi-D we believe in using the whole entire mushroom with no damage to the environment and no chemical extraction what soever.
Plant based
Hi-D is 100% plant based (Vegan), unlike other Vitamin D options which are mostly animal derived.
Made In Australia
Hi-D™ Mushroom Vitamin D products are Made in Australia with at least 70% Australian Ingredients.
What does "IU" stand for?
IU is an International Unit, usually used to measure fat soluble vitamins including Vitamin A, D and E.
In Vitamin D:
1 IU = 0.025mcg
1000 IU = 25mcg
Clean Label
Hi-D is Non-GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) and doesn't contain any additives, fillers or nasties.
Organic
Hi-D Natural Vitamin D is made from 100% Certified Organic Shiitake mushrooms.
There are no chemical, fertilisers, pesticides or other artificial chemicals used in the farming of the mushrooms.
What does Freeze Dried mean?
Freeze-dried mushrooms maintain most of their nutrients throughout the process. In contrast to heat dehydrated food, where only around 60-75% of the original nutrients are retained, in freeze-dried food about 97% of the nutrients are retained
Sustainability & Circular Economy
Did you know that mushrooms are one of the most sustainable foods on the planet with one of the lowest carbon footprints?
Mushrooms have an environmental footprint at least 10 times smaller than any animal/fish products and half of that of most plant-based foods.
The Hi-D process uses the whole mushroom, with no wastage. No water is used in the processing.
Circular Economy
Our suppliers in both Australia and Japan practice circular economy in their mushroom production flow – with locally sourced organic substrate recycled from
other local companies. For example, our supplier of Oyster Mushrooms uses, among other recycled items, the organic waste from a local cold-coffee brewer.
